Description

Do you use Python in your scientific work? Do you run Python code on HPC clusters, or simply on your laptop?

We invite you to our newly designed course:

Python on HPC Clusters

This course will teach you some of the Python-related topics beyond the absolute basics of the language - things you will likely run into as a scientist using Python.

The course is spread over two half-days. It will be held as a hybrid course - both online via Zoom and in person at HRZ (Wegelerstr. 6), room 0.012. The course language is English.

Due to limitations of this registration system, the timings listed for this event show only the timings on 26th May. Please note that the session will continue the following day (27th May) at the same time and location.

Prerequisites and Target Audience

This course is intended for scientists who develop scientific computing software, with a focus on HPC systems.

This is NOT an introduction to Python programming. Basic Python knowledge is mandatory.

Preliminary list of topics:

  • Overview of common frameworks: Numpy, Scipy, Pandas, Pytorch, Tensorflow
  • What everyone should know about Python performance
  • pip and Conda basics
  • Using pip and Conda on HPC clusters
  • Using GPUs and other system resources
  • Parallel computing with Python

Since this course is being held for the first time, the list of topics is potentially subject to major changes.

About the presenters

Jan Steiner works at the HPC@HRZ Team at Uni Bonn as an advisor. He has been developing in Python for about 6 years.

Shayma Wahdan works at Uni Wuppertal and works with software frameworks in particle physics.
