Description
Research about transgender, intersex, and nonbinary (TIN) communities has historically further marginalised us (TIN people) as a group. As a PhD candidate who is also trans and nonbinary, this research feels particularly dehumanising. For the sake of TIN people including myself, I am committed to conducting research that is co-produced by academics and communities and offers some sort of capacity building opportunity. Both participatory methods and Open Science reflect this commitment. My doctoral research project utilises Participatory Action Research (PAR) to examine access to gender affirming care for TIN people across Cymru (Wales). Central to this project are the relationships I have built with groups across the country, notably with the mutual aid group Trans Aid Cymru. In this lightning talk, I briefly demonstrate how a particular set of methods, Participatory Action Research, are a natural fit for Open Science using examples from my doctoral research project.
