Description

Generative AI is not only significantly affecting the world of software development, but also rapidly changing the way research is conducted. This online workshop offers a structured opportunity to explore both the practical use of AI-based coding tools for data analysis and the broader questions they raise for scientific integrity and responsibility.

During the workshop, we will combine structured hands-on exercises with group discussions to:

  • get to know the features and limitations of the various AI-based coding assistants
  • explore how generative AI can help writing reusable, well documented and version controlled analysis code
  • discuss when AI assistance supports research and when it conflicts with good scientific practice
  • develop your own criteria for when and how to use AI-based coding tools in your research

By the end of the workshop, you will be equipped to make informed and conscious decisions about how to choose and use AI-based coding assistants in your own research.

Prerequisites: You should have some (at least fundamental) experience in scientific coding (e.g. in R or Python).
