Description
Reliable Internet connectivity is a foundational requirement for digital health services such as telemedicine, electronic health records, and remote diagnostics. Without adequate connectivity, efforts to modernize healthcare systems risk reinforcing existing regional and socioeconomic inequalities.
Brazil has approximately 50,000 Primary Health Care Units distributed across a vast and socioeconomically diverse territory. Monitoring connectivity conditions at this scale is critical for designing equitable digital health policies and ensuring that technological innovation does not widen infrastructure gaps.
In response to this challenge, the Conectividade na Saúde (Brazilian Healthcare Connectivity Initiative) was created to systematically assess Internet connectivity in public healthcare facilities nationwide. Connectivity measurement agents are installed in participating establishments to collect performance data and address fundamental policy questions: What is the actual quality of Internet connectivity in public health facilities? Is it sufficient to sustain digital health services? Where are connectivity gaps geographically located?
If this proposal is accepted, the talk will present the initiative and provide an overview of its technical design. The collected measurements are integrated with administrative registries and geospatial enrichment and delivered through APIs and interactive dashboards built within the R ecosystem.
