Fighting Academic Spam: Protecting Researchers and Science

Europe/Zurich
Description

Academic spam—unsolicited invitations, predatory journals, and fake conferences—is more than just an inbox nuisance. It threatens research integrity, wastes valuable time, and exploits academics for profit.

Join this online workshop to understand the impact of academic spam on the scientific community, learn how to respond effectively (e.g., reporting to IronPort, leveraging GDPR requests), and discuss broader strategies to protect you from costly mistakes. You will also see some eye-opening statistics, and we will learn how to fight back together.

📅 Date & Time: 27. March 2025, 16:00 CET (UTC+1)

📍 Location: Online (a link will be provided the day before)

🔍 Who should attend? Researchers, students, and academics looking to reduce spam clutter and take action against unwanted emails.

Course is delivered by DRA Trainer Christian Meesters, a computational scientist who usually is focussed on reproducible data analysis.
